Our tip: A classic fried-fish shop: simple, tasty, fresh from the pan – perfect for fried fish with fries.
Kergulena is the Socha family's fried-fish shop and fish restaurant at Mazowiecka 5A – a hundred meters from the beach, a few minutes' walk from the lighthouse. It has stood in the same spot since 1976, and today the third generation runs it. Website: smazalniaryb.pl.
Don't confuse it with its neighbor BoMorze at number 5B (pizza and pasta). The entrance to Kergulena is on Mazowiecka, across the square towards the back – navigation sometimes takes you via Parkowa, and then it's easy to walk past the sign.
What you eat here
The menu is fish from start to finish: fried, from the oven, from the grill, soups, herring, seafood. House classics:
- cod fillet – traditionally in a thin breadcrumb coating or in butter; priced by weight
- halászlé – spicy Hungarian fish soup, on the menu from the very beginning
- pierogi with cod and salmon
- KerBurger with cod fillet
- flounder and turbot when the fishing boats have their season
- Baltic sprats, herring by weight, salmon tartare
For kids there's a smaller cod fillet, plus high chairs. Dogs get a bowl of water. You order at the window, take a number and collect your food when it's called – restaurant cooking at fried-fish-shop speed.
In 2025 Robert Makłowicz was here for his show "Makłowicz w podróży". He called Kergulena "the standard meter of all fried-fish shops".
Season and practical info
Kergulena is a seasonal place: open roughly from April to the end of September, closed in winter. You'll find the exact opening day on smazalniaryb.pl.
In July and August it's often full after 1 pm and around 6 pm. It's best to call (+48 516 186 815) or reserve a day or two ahead. You can park on Parkowa or Kolejowa; you enter the restaurant from Mazowiecka.
After your meal you're at the beach in a few minutes. The lighthouse is close too – fish and the cliff fit nicely into one afternoon.
