The Butterfly House by the Lighthouse (Motylarnia pod Latarnią Morską) is a heated pavilion with a tropical climate right next to Niechorze lighthouse, at ul. Polna 30 – about 70 m from the tower. Inside, exotic butterflies from around the world fly freely, and one may land on your shoulder. A good outing with children, rainy days included.
What you'll see
- Several dozen exotic species, among them the iridescent blue Morpho peleides from Central and South America (13–20 cm wingspan), owl butterflies (Caligo memnon) and the Atlas moth (Attacus atlas).
- Pupae from which the butterflies hatch.
- A guide – included in the ticket price and happy to answer your questions.
The butterfly house states that it keeps no protected or endangered species.
When to come
It is a seasonal attraction, open in the summer months and closed off-season. It's warm and humid inside – dress lightly, and expect your camera lens to fog up for a moment. Rain doesn't matter here. Groups of 15 or more must book at least one day ahead.
